A Playwright alternative for web and native mobile apps
mini vs Playwright.
Playwright runs your team’s web tests, fast. mini adds native apps and writes its own.
| Capability | Playwright | mini |
|---|---|---|
| Writes the tests itself | With its test agents | A scenario and its acceptance criteria |
| Keeps them current as the app changes | Its healer agent proposes fixes | Automatic with GitHub; via your coding agent otherwise |
| Flags issues no test asked about | UI/UX suggestions, never blocking | |
| iOS, Android and web | Web, with mobile browsers emulated | No desktop Safari or Edge |
| Physical phones | Experimental: Chrome on Android | iPhones (TestFlight) and Android phones, on request |
| Hundreds of device models | Few models: simulators, emulators, some phones | |
| Video, repro steps and fix prompt by default | Traces and Copy prompt; video if configured | Plus steps to reproduce |
| Same path on every run | Path varies; criteria stay fixed | |
| Open source, free to self-host | A hosted service |
Same release. Different hands.
One pull request renames Pay, with a new test ID. Your team edits the Playwright test; mini edits its own.
Pick the one that fits.
Checked against Playwright’s public docs on 5 October 2026.
Pick Playwright if…
- Your product is a web app and your team writes TypeScript daily.
- You want a fast core suite on every commit.
- You need component or API tests beside end-to-end tests.
Pick mini if…
- You ship native iOS and Android apps as well as the web.
- Nobody has time to keep the long tail of flows current.
- Your journeys leave the browser: another app, a second phone.
Keep the core. Give mini the rest.
Keep your core suite
Fast Playwright checks stay on every commit.
Hand mini the long tail
Flows nobody maintains, native apps and cross-app journeys.
One report, three platforms
mini reports web, iOS and Android per release.
Can mini run alongside Playwright?
Yes. mini doesn’t touch your Playwright setup. Run both on the same builds, and retire a Playwright test only once mini covers it.
Is an agent less predictable than a script?
Yes, the path can vary: mini picks each action from the screen. The acceptance criteria stay fixed; an ungradable run is marked Unprocessable, never guessed.
How does mini fit into our CI?
On GitHub, mini posts a check and a pull-request comment; the check is informational until you choose to block merges. Any other CI uses the minitest CLI.
What build does mini need?
mini builds the commit or takes an upload from the CLI. Emulators need x86_64; iOS needs a Simulator build, or TestFlight on physical iPhones (on request).
Is mini as fast as Playwright?
No. Playwright replays code; mini looks at each screen and decides. Keep Playwright where per-commit speed matters; give mini the coverage around it.
Which browsers does mini test?
Chrome and Firefox at desktop, tablet and mobile sizes, Safari on iPhone and Chrome on Android. Not Edge.
Keep Playwright. Add the apps it can’t reach.
Bring a build of your native app. We’ll show you mini’s report on it.
